Lemonade stand returns to support kids in Indianapolis who survived domestic violence

Empowering Child Survivors: Coburn Place's Lemonade Stand Fundraiser

Coburn Place, a non-profit organization in Indianapolis, is bringing back its annual lemonade stand fundraiser to support child survivors of domestic violence. The event aims to raise ,000 to provide these children with essential resources and services, empowering them to break the cycle of abuse and build a brighter future.

Transforming Lives, One Lemonade Stand at a Time

Providing Essential Support for Child Survivors

Coburn Place's lemonade stand fundraiser is more than just a summer tradition; it's a lifeline for children who have endured the trauma of domestic violence. The funds raised will be used to provide these young survivors with a range of essential services, including new shoes, socks, clothes, and school uniforms. Additionally, the organization will ensure they have access to art and school supplies, funding for extracurricular activities, prom dresses, cleats, field trip fees, and movie passes for good grades."These kids are the heart of our mission because they are the ones who will break the cycle of domestic violence in their families," says Coburn Place CEO Rachel Scott. "We want them to feel confident when they go back to school this fall, and having brand-new shoes and clothes can be powerful. Most of us can relate to that feeling of starting a new school year with a fresh look and a renewed sense of self-assurance."

Empowering Children to Break the Cycle of Abuse

Coburn Place's commitment to supporting child survivors extends beyond the material needs. The organization also provides transitional and community-based housing for domestic violence survivors, along with well-being services and specialized children's programs. By addressing the holistic needs of these young individuals, Coburn Place aims to empower them to break the cycle of abuse and build a future free from violence."We understand that the impact of domestic violence on children can be profound and long-lasting," explains Scott. "That's why our approach is focused on providing a comprehensive support system that addresses their emotional, social, and educational needs. We want these children to not only survive but to thrive, and to become the agents of change in their own lives and communities."

A Community-Driven Effort

The lemonade stand fundraiser is a community-driven initiative that brings together local businesses, organizations, and individuals to support Coburn Place's mission. The event will take place at three locations around Indianapolis on Thursday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Coburn Place on E. 38th Street, Christ Church Cathedral on Monument Circle, and Charles Schwab on Keystone Avenue. For those who can't attend the in-person lemonade stands, there is also a virtual "lemonade stand" available online, where donations can be made through July 19. Additionally, on Friday, July 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Hotel Tango in Fletcher Place will host a "Spiked Lemonade Stand," with 20% of the bar sales going directly to Coburn Place's Children Services program."The lemonade stand fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and support these incredible children," says Scott. "Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of the young survivors we serve."

Raising Awareness and Providing Resources

The Coburn Place lemonade stand fundraiser not only raises much-needed funds but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence and the impact it has on children. By sharing the stories of the young survivors and highlighting the vital services provided by Coburn Place, the organization hopes to inspire others to get involved and support the cause."Domestic violence is a complex and often hidden issue, but it's one that affects far too many families in our community," says Scott. "By shining a light on the experiences of these children and the work we're doing to support them, we hope to break the silence and encourage more people to seek help or get involved in the fight against domestic violence."For those in need of support, Coburn Place provides a range of resources, including connections to the National Domestic Violence Hotline and other local organizations that offer assistance to victims and survivors. The organization's commitment to empowering and uplifting the lives of child survivors is a testament to their unwavering dedication to creating a safer, more just world for all.
